How a coastal stay gets its rating

Every property on Sean Water Views goes through the same inspection routine. We visit in person, check the details that matter for a beach holiday, and only then write the review you see online. Here is the sequence we follow, from the first site visit to the published report.

Week 1 - Site inspection

First visit and property walkthrough

We arrive unannounced and spend at least two hours inside the property. The checklist covers room condition, bedding quality, kitchen equipment, water pressure, and whether the advertised photos match the actual space. We also measure the distance to the nearest public beach access point.

Week 1 - Overnight stay

Sleeping on site to test comfort

A daytime look is not enough. One of our editors books a standard night, without requesting special treatment. This reveals the real noise levels, mattress comfort, blackout curtains, and how well the property handles evening temperatures near the coast.

Week 2 - Neighbourhood assessment

Checking the area beyond the front door

A great house can sit in a difficult location. We walk the surrounding streets at different times of day, note the condition of nearby restaurants and shops, and check street lighting and general safety for evening walks back from the beach.

Week 3 - Guest feedback review

Cross-checking with verified visitor reports

We compare our findings against feedback from guests who stayed in the previous season. Patterns matter more than single complaints. If three separate visitors mention the same issue, it becomes part of the published assessment.

Week 4 - Rating and publication

Scoring, writing, and final review

Each property receives separate scores for room condition, beach proximity, noise, maintenance, and value. The written review combines our inspection notes with practical seasonal tips. Nothing is published until a second editor verifies the facts and the rating matches the evidence.

What this means for your planning

The full cycle takes about four weeks per property. When you read a review on this site, it reflects a recent physical visit, not a summary of old listings. If a property has changed management or undergone renovation since our last check, we note that clearly and schedule a follow-up inspection before updating the rating.

How to read our coastal stay ratings

Before you compare properties or plan a route along the coast, it helps to know exactly what a rating on Sean Water Views does and does not mean. This page sets out the definitions we work with, the limits of our inspections, and the conditions that apply to every review we publish.

What a verified guest rating covers

Each rating reflects a single stay at a specific property during a defined period. We assess room condition, cleanliness, noise levels, maintenance standards, and how accurately the listing matches what you actually find on arrival. Proximity to beach access points is measured on foot, not by car, and we note the terrain of the route.

A high score means the property delivered on its promises in those categories. It does not guarantee that every future stay will match, because weather, seasonal crowds, and management changes all play a part.

The limits of our inspections

Our editorial team personally visits each property before it receives a full review. We do not inspect every unit in a complex, and we cannot verify the condition of a property on the exact day you book. If a property changes management or undergoes renovation after our visit, we update the review only when we have new information.

We do not accept payment or free stays in exchange for favourable coverage. A property that fails to meet basic standards is reported honestly, regardless of any relationship with the owner.

Seasonal conditions and practical notes

Coastal weather along the South African shoreline varies more than many travellers expect. Our reviews include seasonal notes on wind patterns, water temperature, and crowd levels for each region. These are observations from our visits and local knowledge, not forecasts.

Safety considerations for neighbourhoods are based on our own assessments and publicly available information. We flag concerns we have seen or heard about, but we cannot guarantee your safety at any property or beach.

How value for money is judged

Value is a comparison between what a property charges and what it offers in terms of location, space, amenities, and upkeep. We do not publish prices, because rates shift with the season. Instead, we describe whether a property feels fairly priced for its category and location, and we point out where you might find better value nearby.

Definitions that keep reviews consistent

When we say "beachfront," we mean the property is directly adjacent to the sand with no road between. "Ocean view" means the sea is visible from the main living area or a private balcony, but not necessarily from every room. "Short walk" means under ten minutes at a normal pace. These terms are used consistently across all our reviews so you can compare properties fairly.
